Blanket Toss View more work by Joe Kunnuk
In this piece, Kunnuk reconstructs the native blanket toss. Hunters would use the blanket toss in order to get a higher vantage viewpoint for locating game in the flat areas of the tundra. Now the blanket toss continues as a form of recreation, ceremony and even a competitive sport. The figures are carved from walrus ivory and the blanket is authentically constructed from bleached seal skin. The base is a light piece of whale bone.
