Bone Musk Ox (Large)View more work by James Aningayou
James started carving musk ox recently, and in this new subject he applies his consistently precise carving technique with which he produces the fine detail in his work. He combines natural materials both found and from the subsistence hunt to great effect. This musk ox is from fossil walrus skull bone and the hooves and legs of the musk ox are from a combination of walrus ivory and baleen, carved finely and pegged together. This is the larger of two sizes of musk ox that James carves.
